Beware of Internet Explorer 9’s Browser Modes Feature
Internet Explorer 9 and 10 come with a new feature aimed
at developers and called Browser Modes, giving them the option to see what a
site would look like on an older version of Microsoft’s in-house browser.
Adobe warns that in some cases, the emulation created by Browser Modes is a lot different from what you could see in real life with an original version of IE7 or IE8.
“While
it’s a good idea in theory, in practice these emulated Browser Modes create
more trouble than benefit because they behave differently than real copies of
IE7 and IE8 would. In the case of web fonts, the differences in behavior are
drastic, and can lead to inaccurate and misleading conclusions about what your
page and web fonts will look like in these older browsers,” it said in a post.
The company then goes on to say that Internet Explorer 9’s Browser Modes features incorrectly reads Typekit fonts settings, such as the @font-face.
